The New York Times online pay wall has finally taken effect. Now readers can only access 20 articles for free a month before having to subscribe to the site.
Fortunately, the internet is filled with deviant, yet clever users who have found ways around this wall. A new Twitter account called freeNYTimes allows tweeters to access as many New York Times articles as they want to for free.
The loop pole seems to be that finding a NY Times article via search engine will not count towards someone’s 20 articles a month. Thus this Twitter account can provide free articles to approximately 2,000 followers as of now.
The New York Times has already asked for Twitter to close this account, saying “It’s clever, but it’s not kosher.” The end of this debate has yet to be settled.
The New York Times also claims to realize that some people will always find a way around the pay wall, and that they are working to fix that.
